Cost: $150-300 Sliding Scale
Description:
In the face of rising authoritarianism, many of us are feeling increasing daily pressure and stress. Somatics teaches us that under pressure, we often fall back on deeply ingrained survival responses. But what if we could respond differently?
To meet this moment, we need new strategies, stronger collaborations, and somatic skills that help us stay in the fight. This series is designed to build your capacity to effectively resist authoritarianism. We will draw on politicized somatic practices from the generative somatics and Strozzi Somatics lineages, as well as lessons from effective resistance movements around the world. Together we will engage practices that help us face pressure, metabolize stress, and embody collective power. We will deepen self-awareness of how we each react under pressure, and strengthen our ability to show up with presence and purpose in high-stakes moments like protest or noncooperation.
Through the series, you will:
Gain an understanding of core principles of noncooperation and anti-authoritarian resistance, as well as core principles of generative somatics
Build awareness of your automatic responses under the pressures of our political moment
Build awareness of your embodiment while in coordination with others, and practice centered coordination
Build awareness of how your body wants to experience allyship or accompaniment
Practice returning to center under pressure, individually and as a group
Practice collective, embodied resistance in relevant scenarios in which we may be called to resist authoritarianism
